It sounds like a fun event. On the space for another award, I do see a justification only because the Michelin/ Gault&Millau accreditation is clearly bestowed on the restaurants and not the chef. In football we have the titles and individual awards. In movies we have awards for movies and talent. Here, with the clear exclusion, I kind of believe the big boys have left the door open for an award event that is for talent. I think. How relevant, objective and honest it can be - how relevant, objective and honest are any awards in this space? What’s another? If there’s free champagne to flow, let the good times roll I’d reckon.
The novelty is factor is exactly as you say. My sense is that it is industry given and not consumer driven. I don’t think consumers make a restaurant decision depending on whether someone has One Knife or Three.
Had literally never heard of it, but then again id never heard of 50 best before i moved here…. And my finger is not exactly on the pulse 😂- sounds like a fun, self congratulatory, peer/industry driven gig - which isnt necessarily a bad thing. As you say its not going to drive footfall. Michelin is probably the worlds best at that along with word of mouth. In most places ive eaten i couldnt tell you the name of the chef. Maybe this will change that eventually? 🤷♂️ - also whats wrong with Moet? 😂 😂
Ha! Moët is fine and I’ve never knowingly turned down a glass, but there’s better champagnes and o would have thought Atlantis could source some at comparable prices. It is being served to chefs so they will know.

I just equated that to how many vital organs I need to pawn to get the tab.

It feels very industry driven and good. Everyone needs their space.

Wow, it’s a great summery, I do 95% with your conclusions!
Thank you very much! Any other thoughts?
Just two things:
All these lists are mostly advantageous for the owner of the list, not the restaurants/chefs.
Targeting destination diners can help, but very often it destroys the connection to the local audience, and that is very dangerous.
Very valid points.
